Alex Turner and my strange infatuation with him.

Recently I got back into my Arctic Monkey’s phase…

I wanted to talk about the era’s of Alex Turner and the music he makes. I like to think there’s the baby era, where they’re practically just a new indie underground rock band, then there’s the peak rock starts where their music suddenly has hundreds of millions of streams and is also very much rock, then there is the current rock, which is more easy rock, slower, the kind of music playing at a bar while u drink a glass of golden whiskey, or at least I assume, I don’t drink whiskey.

It’s the same with The Last Shadow Puppets too, it’s not a coincidence in their baby era the music was still very rock and roll but once it got to their second album it was suddenly much slower and vibrant and maybe even a little more meaningful. Like wine his music ages, like the older he gets the sweeter and more tasteful it becomes.

People would argue they like grape juice more than wine. That’s fine and completely valid of course. It’s not banishment of grape juice once wine was released anyways, you won’t run out of it either, everyone can get a taste of anything in this world these days, so there’s no need to fight on what is better if both are good anyways.

Let us talk about The Last Shadow Puppets though, lets face it by now if you read enough of my website you know I’m a raging homosexual. Yes, I have noticed and find myself greatly following the relationship of Alex Turner and Miles Kane. Now that’s out of the way, what I really want to talk about is their goddamn music! The Last Shadow Puppets is that mix of two things that you never thought would ever sound good together but ended up sounding so good you felt yourself floating off the ground. Miles Kane, as a solo artist is a rock and roll artist. You can tell from his albums, and he also aged like the finest wine, have you seen him? He’s like a roman statue with gorgeous gorgeous muscles and a defined jaw and that beautiful clothing style and- I will stop myself before this becomes a simp rant.

Anyways, back to the point. He’s rock and roll, he’s hard fast chords, he’s sexy and chic and all that jazz. Technically, Alex is too, with the Arctic Monkeys. Rock and roll, UNTIL OF COURSE THIS SUDDEN CHANGE IN MUSIC STYLE.

I like to think, one day we were all sleeping peacefully in bed knowing that Arctic Monkeys and TLSP were rock bands with loud sounds and fast tempos. Then, out of nowhere, Alex Turner jumps on us and releases Everything That You’ve Come to Expect with Miles Kane in TLSP and were all freaked out no wayy!! no way!

That is not what happened though obviously. Alex had always been a versatile artist, and Everything that You’ve come to Expect still has rock embedded into it like a diamond. That’s not what I’m talking about though. I’m talking about the flavor and the emotion and the fact that it is not just rock. TLSP releasing this album kind off shows how Alex and Miles grew through this music journey, with all these new experiments with chords and challenges to the voice and channeling their emotions to create music this wonderful and sexy and meaningful and just ultimately a giant 10/10. TLSP is like mixing these two different flavors and getting this wonderful mess of tastiness and deliciousness. Don’t get me wrong, individually, their music is good. great, godly, but together, it’s something above godliness at this point. Them making music together has awakened something in me and its not just sexual attraction, although them kissing on stage a lot may be a factor to it.

Then Alex releases Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino, and my god, this album, it’s literally a story in a box, inspiration in a nutshell that you can just crack open and bam you have this delicious tasty treat that gives you nutrition and strength. It is a story, it is an aesthetic, it is a masterpiece, and it is SIMILAR although not EXACTLY THE SAME as ETYCTE. Though you can see what I’m getting at right? The vibes have shifted and it started with ETYCTE, and I’m gonna be honest, I really love the shift. I like AM and Miles Kane individually, but when they make music together it’s this concoction of wonderfulness and just aaaaaaa I cannot express how beautiful their music is.

Can I just say though cause this has been killing me, Miles’ deep voice next to Alex’ main vocals?? Oh my god?? It kills me every time, I eat it up every time. It’s so good, it makes me shake, it makes me cry cause I miss TLSP so much.

Oh dear I really went on a rampage huh? Oh well, what can you do. Anyways, I’ll probably be writing an original story based on the idea of Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino. It sounds like a fun concept, imagine writing about all the little details of this retro hotel on the moon that’s sci-fi but also vintage? The journey sounds fun, but here I am again journeying before I even finished the last one, oh well, I try my best, I guess it comes with being young. Maybe when I’m old and mature and finally like the taste of alcohol I’ll have more appreciation for finishing my works.

Lots of Love.
